Edgar Yaeger Original 1930 Mixed Media Floral Still Life

Item Details

An original 1930 oil and pastel floral still life painting on canvas by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997). The painting depicts a bouquet of wild pink, yellow, and white blossoms sitting in a ceramic vessel on a tabletop. A vivid blue wall stands behind the flowers, beautifully contrasting their warm-toned blossoms. The painting is signed and dated in black paint to the lower right. It is presented in a wooden frame with carved embellishments and white painted finish; a hand-written note to the verso explains that the frame was handmade by Yaeger himself.

Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
