An antique oil painting on canvas. This depicts a tall masted ship being towed down Venice’s Grand Canal, with the iconic campanile and the domes of the Doge’s palace rising against the mottled clouding sky. It is signed in the bottom right what appears to read ‘H.D Romanis’ however no clear artist attribution could be made. The work is presented in a gilt wood frame with gesso foliate ornamentation.
Condition
- edge wear to frame; severe toning to varnish; crackling throughout; slightly dusty; black light reveals impact crackling; repairs made to bottom left and bottom right; one hole to upper left of canvas.
