A limited edition etching on paper after a circa 1799 aquatint by well-listed Spanish artist Francisco de Goya (1746 – 1828). The black-and-white piece, titled Volaverunt (Flying), originates from the ‘Los Caprichos’ series and depicts Goya’s lover Duchess of Alba María Cayetana de Silva flying through the air with arms spread. Three older women are shown below her, nervously clutching their skirts as they float. The print includes a notation of ‘Goya Inven’ to the lower left, with the work title printed in plate to the lower center. It is numbered in graphite to the lower right as 133 out of an edition of 250. The item is presented matted but unframed.
