This brightly-colored piece depicts a marketplace scene using found fabrics, embroidery, and crochet details to create a piece that has three-dimensional elements including people and the items for sale in their stalls. Arpilleras are a type of folk art textile made by the women living in shantytowns in Chile, Peru, and other South American countries to support their families and community. This piece is presented behind glass in a wood frame with a sawtooth bracket for hanging.
