Hand-Knotted Sino-Persian Area Rug

A Sino-Persian area rug. This wool rug, likely made in China, is finely hand-knotted in a palette of cream, pink, cranberry, and shades of blue. It begins with a large pink pendant medallion over a cream-colored field. The medallion and field are populated with crisply rendered palmettes, flowers, leaves, and vines. Framing the field are four borders, including a stylized herati main border over pink. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short kilim skirts and knotted ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
