A Persian Kashan area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cranberry, deep midnight blue, gray, and cream. It begins with a concentric star pendant medallion in cream and midnight blue. The medallion rests on a cranberry-colored, contoured lozenge over a midnight-blue field, which is visible only in four brief wedges. Spandrels are grounded in ivory. Phases of the field are filled with rendered flowers, palmettes, vines, and leancet leaves. The field is framed by three floral borders, including a primary herati border over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with long wool warp fringe. Unlabeled.
