A late 19th-century original Romantic oil painting on board by an anonymous artist, painted in the style of renowned French Romantic painter Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684 – 1721). The image depicts a pleasant garden scene in which men and women relax on the lawn before a calm lake, surrounded by foliage and trees, flirtatiously enjoying one another’s company in the warm, golden light. There is no artist signature. This work is mounted in a contemporary wooden frame with carved foliate details and a pickled gilt finish, equipped to hang.
Condition
- craquelure across painting. A few small areas of inpainting. Age discoloration and accretion to painting. Right side of painting is worn with abrasions and residue from frame. Frame is worn.
