Wooden Double Face Dance Mask

Item Details

A wooden dance mask with a double face, likely from Guatemala. This orange and black piece has a carved and painted depiction of a feminine face with the torso and face of a smaller figure rising from the top of its head as if it were a hairstyle. This carving, which has its eyes half-closed, does not have a maker’s mark or hanging hardware.

Condition

- fair; loss to paint; scuffs and scratches to surface due to being used; lightly dirty throughout; large chunk from bottom of verso.
