A signed offset lithograph with serigraphic embellishments on paper titled Gossip in the sanctuary by listed American artist Varnette P. Honeywood (1950 – 2010), published in 1982. The work features the stylized depiction of two woman gossiping during their visit to church. To the background multiple figures with solemn expressions. The work is signed, dated, and titled in graphite to the lower margin.

Honeywood is best known for her vibrant representations involving African American subjects. Additionally, she created multiple book illustrations and created the set for the popular television show ‘The Cosby Show’. She acquired her artistic training from Spelman College and posteriorly her masters degree in education from the University of Southern California. Subsequently, she socially contributed as an art teacher in various institutions including the Joint Educational Project and the central Juvenile Hall.
