An offset lithograph on paper featuring the work titled Don’t believe the hype by listed American artist Varnette P. Honeywood (1950 – 2010), published in 1990. The work depicts the image of a family integrated by two male adolescents and a young girl carried by her mother, who bears a name tag that reads ‘Ford’. The figures are rendered against a vibrant graffiti that partially reads the title of the piece. Below the image, the title is printed in gray letters. The image is signed in plate and includes date and copyright to the lower right.

Honeywood is best known for her vibrant representations involving African American subjects. Additionally, she created multiple book illustrations and created the set for the popular television show ‘The Cosby Show’. She acquired her artistic training from Spelman College and posteriorly her masters degree in education from the University of Southern California. Subsequently, she socially contributed as an art teacher in various institutions including the Joint Educational Project and the central Juvenile Hall.
