A limited edition lithograph on paper titled The Sisters by listed artist James Denmark (b.1936). Depicted are three women in profile with geometric designed hairstyles. This piece is numbered 100 out of an edition of 400. An embossed stamp with the artist name is present to the lower left. Signed by hand to the lower right corner and titled to the center margin. Work is present unframed.

James Denmark was born in Winter Haven, Florida into a family of artist. This familial background exposed Denmark to color and forms at an early age. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida. While there was under the tutelage of artist and acclaimed African-American art historian, Dr. Samella Lewis. Lewis showed Denmark the traditions and accomplishments of the African-American art movement. After graduating Denmark started teaching art in the New York public school system. It was during the late 1970s that Denmark start to experiment with collage, a medium he is well known for today. Denmark has had several one-man shows in galleries throughout New York including the Root’s in Art Gallery, Center For Art and Culture of Bedford Stuyvesant. And the Savacou Gallery to name a few. His work has been exhibited in group exhibitions throughout the United States including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Massachusetts; Orozco Chapel, Guadalajara, Mexico; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, Texas; and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia to name a few.
