Hand-Knotted Turkish Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Turkish area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of camel, vermillion, and deep midnight blue beginning with two large stylized star medallions over an open camel-colored field. The medallions each are seeded with a rose-colored eight-pointed star set on a blue shield, which in turn rests on the vermillion ground of the medallion. In contrast to the simpler design of the field, several unresolved borders feature dense patterning. These include a reciprocal medahil border, a pair of guard borders featuring a pattern of Xs alternating with diamond eyes, and a primary border featuring small repeating star medallions. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short gray wool warp fringe. Unlabeled.
