Vintage African Kuba Cloth Woven Panels
Item Details
A pair of vintage African Kuba cloth panels from the Congo Republic. The distinctively graphic panels, each in a pattern of diamonds and zig zag lines, are hand woven by Bakuba men using vegetable dyed raffia palm leaves on hand looms, Bakuba women embroider the panels, each panel a unique work of art. Traditionally, the versatile cloth was used for clothing, mats and even currency. Both panels in natural tans and browns are a complex pattern of both flat weaving and cut fibers.
