Mid 20th Century African Tanga Cache-Sex "Pikuran" Beaded Skirt

A mid-20th century African Tanga cache-sex, or Pikuran, worn by the Kirdi people of Northern Cameroon. Traditionally woven using colorful bohemian glass beads assembled in a chevron or diamond pattern with cowrie shell fringe. The beaded skirt would have been worn at the waist by un-married young women to both ward off the evil eye and catch the attention of a male suitor.

Condition

All beads intact with a good patina and tight weaving.
