Vivika and Otto Heino Handmade Stoneware Slab Plate

A handmade stoneware slab plate by Vivika and Otto Heino. This decorative square piece by the listed pottery artists features a white glaze spiral design to the surface. The work has a gold tone metal wall hanging device which can be removed. The work is signed to the back ‘Vivika & Otto’; an attached vintage label is marked ‘Heino, Vivika – Slab Plate – Clay, Stoneware’. Otto (1915-2009) and Vivika Heine (1909-1995) were well-known in the midcentury studio crafts world and made their living as potters. They were also known for perfecting a yellow glaze formula thought to have been lost from Chinese pottery. The married pair always signed a work together even if it was made by one of them.
