Carl Zimmerman Original Large-Scale Oil on Canvas

Item Details

An original oil painting on canvas by well-listed American artist, muralist, and teacher Carl Zimmerman. (Cincinnati, Ohio, 1900-1985). A rare break from his usual, smaller watercolors paintings, this image depicts an older woman with a young girl arranging flowers on a back porch. A strange, skewed linear perspective draws the viewer to the central focus of the gigantic bouquet resting on a red checkered tablecloth in the foreground. Artist signature is signed in red paint to the lower right. This work is mounted in a fine beveled wood frame with cast corner embellishments and a bright gold leaf finish, equipped to hang.
Zimmerman was a prominent Cincinnati artist, known for his mural and oil paintings, as well as his teaching ability. He studied under Reginald Grooms, John E. Weis and Herman Wessel. In 1927, Zimmerman received his first commission to paint a mural through the recommendation of John E. Weiss, and after much success he was commissioned to paint murals for large cities across the United States. Zimmerman taught at the Art Academy, Taft Museum and Cincinnati Art Museum. He was the president and a longtime member of the Cincinnati Art Club.
