Elizabeth Barrett Browning Hand Written Letter, Signature
Item Details
An exceedingly rare hand written letter by the prominent English poetess Elizabeth Barrett Browning, of an unknown date, written on fine Delarue and Company laid note paper. The text, nearly indecipherable, in her handwriting, reading ‘’(illegible) Wayden, we can’t go to you on Tuesday evening – just one (illegible) to say that! Will you forgive us, and let it be for another day? There is an engagement for Wednesday, but remember, we have a great reach of time before us, Your affectionate Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
58 (illegible) street, Monday, I recevied your (illegible) letter on ending (illegible). Oh no, you are wrong in your suspicions, I am very sorry today, I was simply tired to draft, being now in an incipient (illegible) resurrection. The stream of morning visitors is very overwhelming. As for you, you are not a visitor ever, but a friend. Could you come to have tea with us on Friday evening or Saturday? Choose either – Robert (Browning) is not at home or would send his love. Do write me a word to name Friday or Saturday and think of me, your affectionate, EBB.’ The piece is hinged on the matting, and paired with a hand tinted bookplate engraving of the eminent poet. Housed in a simple ebonized frame, the piece was sold by Stewart Kipp, book seller of Cincinnati, Ohio. Please note, the piece has not been authenticated, has been compared to examples of her writing and we believe the piece to be genuine. Please preview personally for the best sense of the piece.
