Russian Lacquer Palekh Box with Man and Phoenix

Item Details

A late 20th century Russian Palekh hand painted box depicts a man with a phoenix type bird rising in flight against the sun. The hinged lid opens to reveal a red interior and it is detailed with a painted gilt leaf design along the edge. The sides of the box have a leaf and scroll painted motif. The box rests on four tiny block feet. The artist name appears in the lower right corner of the image and the village name is on the left.

EBTH certifies this item is from the private collection of personal property formerly owned by Dr. Robert H. Schuller.
