A James Smilie engraving. Depicted in this black and white etching on paper is a valley scene. It is marked in the bottom white margin ‘Painted by John F. Kensett, Engraved by James Smilie’. Beneath the image is printed ‘Mount Washington, from the Valley of Conway, Engraved from the Original Painting from the American Art Union, 1851….Printed by J. Dalton’. The etching comes displayed behind glass, matted and framed with a wire hanger on the reverse.
