A collection of twentieth-century special editions of classic works. All five of these volumes are presented in slipcases, and two feature color illustrations. This collection includes William Makepeace Thackeray’s Vanity Fair (New York: The Heritage Press, 1940), Ambrose Bierce’s The Monk and the Hangman’s Daughter (ibid., 1967), Daniel Defoe’s A Journal of the Plague Year, &c. (ibid., 1968), Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice (Avon, Connecticut: The Heritage Club, 1972) and Poems of Percy Bysshe Shelley (Avon, Connecticut: Cardavon Press, 1974). The Monk and the Hangman’s Daughter is bound in cloth-covered boards, while the other volumes have quarter cloth bindings with decorated boards.
