An original oil painting on canvas by well-listed American Impressionist Carl Rudolph Krafft (Ohio/Chicago; 1884-1938) titled Oak Park, Illinois, circa 1930. Skillfully rendered in carefully mixed, clean colors, the image depicts his village of residence, Oak Park, near Chicago, in the midst of winter, the terrain blanketed in a thick mantle of snow. Two town dwellers converse in the foreground, standing to the side of a narrow dirt road. Artist signature is signed to the lower left, accompanied by his thumbprint, as he was known for including. The painting is mounted in a fine Arts & Crafts seamless carved wood frame with a bright gold leaf finish and hanging wire to verso. Title is marked lightly in pencil to the verso.

Krafft was an Ohio native who became best known for his regional impressionistic work. He was a founder of the Ozark School of painters and exhibited heavily in the Chicago area throughout his career. Many of his later oils contain a thumbprint near the signature, as his paintings were often copied and sold as originals by forgers during the Depression. His paintings are included in the permanent collections of more than two dozen museums and institutions nationwide, including Art Institute of Chicago; The Dayton Art Institute; Union League Club of Chicago, the Corcoran Gallery; and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Condition

- craquelure throughout painting with light impressions near outer edges from uynderyign stretcher bars. Vague paint loss to lower edge, and barely visible along other outer edges. Seamless corners of frame to lower left and upper right are cracked through the gesso coating. Finish of frame is chipped along edges and corners.
