A 1780 copy of The Abbey of Kilkhampton by Herbert Croft, printed in London for G. Kearsly. This book is a collection of satirical lampoons of notable figures in the late eighteenth century of Great Britain. It has a leather spine and corners with marbled boards and is printed on laid paper with a total of 141 pages. On its title page, the book states it to be the 8th edition, ‘with considerable additions’. It also reads, ‘The Abbey of Kilkhampton; or, Monumental Records for the Year 1980’ and ‘Compiled with a view to ascertain, with precision, the manners which prevailed in Great Britain during the last fifty years of the eighteenth century’.

Condition

- Cover boards are loose and separating from binding
- Light foxing throughout; moderate to title page.
- Holes in title page and subsequent page near binding.
- Leather on spine and corners is heavily worn.
- Rubbing to spine and edge wear to cover boards.
