David Rosenthal Original 1903 Oil on Canvas Portrait
Item Details
An original 1903 large antique oil painting on canvas by listed American Impressionist artist David Rosenthal (Cincinnati, 1876 – 1949). The painting depicts a serious portrait of an elderly woman seated in an ornately carved chair. She wears a black high-collared dress and has circular wire-rimmed spectacles. Her mouth is closed tightly and she gazes sternly at the viewer. The painting is signed and dated in red to the lower left. The canvas is stretched but is presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation. Rosenthal studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati with Frank Duveneck, Lewis Meakin, and Joseph Henry Sharp. He then traveled and studied throughout Europe, spending a particularly large amount of time living and working in Italy.
Condition
- craquelure across, consistent with age. A few small scratches and scuffs across the painting’s surface. Dripping accretion to canvas’s verso.
