An original watercolor painting on paper titled Rotary by listed Ohio artist, Reginald Grooms (1900 – 1989). The painting depicts a city scape rendered in blue, yellow and brown, with a focal point on fountain inscribed with the word, ‘Rotary’. The piece is signed in ink to the lower left and is protected behind acetate, temporarily mounted on a foam board.
Grooms was a painter, watercolorist, lithographer and teacher. His students include many prominent and listed Cincinnati artists. The son of a wood engraver, Grooms took up watercolors and oils as a childhood hobby. He received a minuscule amount of formal art training in his school days. Later, he would later study at the Cincinnati Art Academy for 5 years and the Academie Julian in Paris for 2 years. Grooms has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout his life. His works have been exhibited at the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Cincinnati Art Club, the University of Cincinnati, and more.
