Edgar Yaegar Oil Painting on Canvas "Nude With One Arm Down"

An oil portrait painting on stretched canvas titled, Nude With One Arm Down, by listed American Modernist, Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), executed in 1941. The figure is rendered in smooth gradients of warm tones against a blue background with bold, recessed accent lines along the edge of the body. It is signed in paint to the lower right. It is presented in a gold-tone decorative frame with a gallery label and hanging wire attached to the verso.

Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.

- This item has been restretched on new stretcher bars. Inpainting is present to the right side of background.
