An antique mid-19th-century original watercolor landscape painting on paper by well-listed painter John William Hill (New Jersey/California; 1812 – 1879), signed to the lower right and dated 1861. The image depicts the edge of a thickly wooded area, the untouched terrain covered in tiny plants, shrubs, and other woodland vegetation, before disappearing into the dense expanse of dark, leafy canopies. The painting is mounted behind coordinating double mat, behind glass in a beveled wood frame with a gold leaf finish, equipped to hang.
Condition
- light age discoloration across paper and matting. Frame is notably worn and discolored.
