Carved Soapstone African Female Bust

Item Details

A female bust made of carved soapstone. The bust represents a female figure with elongated features, hair in a tight bun. The figure is supported by an pedestal comprised of tan and brown stone joined into a gently curving form. The woman’s hair is made of light stone while her face is made of carved brown stone. The piece is unmarked. The piece is similar in style and material to busts made in Gabon but clear attribution could not be made.

Condition

- worn finish throughout; light chipping; small crack to the upper right.
