Antique Bernard Frank Brass Match Holder Ash Receiver

An antique Bernard Frank brass match holder ash receiver. This turn of the century cast brass match box cover with tray was manufactured by William Bernard in New York. Two ornate decorative shields to the top were designed to hide a match cover which was considered unsightly in smoking rooms for gentlemen. The tray is decorated with acanthus foliage showing a north wind face to one end. The matches could be struck along the inside rim of the tray. The backside is marked ‘Bernard Frank Pat For Applied New York’.
