Oil Painting on Canvas of the Madonna and the Infant Christ
Item Details
An oil painting on canvas. This depicts a sleeping infant Christ, reclining against red silk, watched over by the Virgin Mary who is draped in a gold and blue mantle. This work is presented in a gilt wooden frame ornamented with gesso egg-and-dart and foliate molding. A hanging wire is affixed on verso. The stretcher is inscribed ‘Tillhor Eric O W Ehrstrom’, however no clear provenance could be made.
Condition
- aging cracks throughout painting; alligatoring in some area; large crack from upper left to center; small bits of media are cracking off; white mold spots on canvas; edge wear to frame; white mold spots on frame.
