"Desert Cloud" Oil Painting Attributed to Lucian C. Vannerson

An oil painting on canvas panel title, ‘Desert Clouds’ is attributed to listed artist Lucian C. Vannerson, 1904-1982. Dessert terrain appears in the foreground rendered in hues of grey, clay, adobe and rose and it is juxtaposed with purple mountains and a blue cloud filled sky. The painting appears to be unsigned and is framed in a gold painted wood frame. The attribution to the artist appears on the verso, signed in pencil, and in blue ink on the Morilla canvas panel label.
Vannerson was a self taught artist born in 1904 in Ochiltree, Texas and was educated at Texas Technological College and Carver Chiropractic College.
He taught himself to paint and was highly influenced by a move in the 1940’s to southern California, El Centro, near the Mexican border. His dessert landscapes were influenced by artist, Paul Grimm . By the early 1950s he moved to Mesa, AZ . His work was exhibited at the O’Brien Art Emporium in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 1956 two of his paintings took four ribbons at the Arizona State Fair. He lived in Arizona and focused on painting full time until his death in November 1982. His works can be found in Sangre de Cristo Arts Center Museum.
