Anne Miller Fiber Art "African Couple"
Item Details
A pair of fiber art pieces collectively titled African Couple by Louisville fiber artist Anne Miller. Each piece uses blue ink to screenprint a geometric background of stripes and patterns including diamonds and wavy circles. These prints are embellished with embroidery; in some places the stitching covers these shapes completely, and in others it forms outlines of completely new shapes. Central to the composition of each piece are the portraits of a man and woman, one on each piece. The man is wearing a large lip plate and beaded necklace, and the woman a head scarf with big hair beneath it. These printed portraits have been padded and stitched onto the ground to create dimension in the work, and both are further embellished with embroidery. Both pieces have the artist’s stitched signature to the lower right corner and labels to the verso giving information about the works. They are presented in natural wood frames that are wired for hanging.
