A Royal Doulton Toby Philpots character jug. This glazed ceramic jug features the bust of Toby Philpots, characterized as a “thirsty old soul” in an eighteenth-century drinking song. This is the character for which “toby jugs” are named. The item is marked ‘Toby Philpots’ near the bottom edge below the hair. It is marked to the base ‘A – Made in England – Royal Doulton’.
