A watercolor painting on paper of a townscape by listed American artist Elizabeth Gowdy Baker (1860-1927). This piece depicts a countryside scene with two pastoral figures standing in the outsides of a rustic house. The work is signed by the artist in graphite to the lower right. Present to the verso is an estate stamp from the Elizabeth Gowdy Baker Collection at the Baker Memorial Art Gallery. The item remains unframed.

Elizabeth Gowdy Baker was born in Ohio and became known for her portraits and landscape paintings. She studied at Cooper Union, the Art Students’ League in New York, the New York School of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and Cowles Art School in Boston. She also studied under the tutelage of renowned artists Frederick Freer, William Chase, and Harry Siddons Mowbray. Institutions that have exhibited her work include the Gage Gallery in Cleveland, the Whitehall Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, and the Houston Museum.
