Kraak Style Chinese Porcelain Plates
Item Details
A group of eight Chinese porcelain plates. The underglaze blue decorated examples were produced in the style of Kraak export porcelain. The pieces have the rim with segmented panels popular with the Portuguese, Dutch and the Continent during the period between 1570-1650. One needs only to look at the art of the period to see depictions of the porcelain among fruits and flowers in a still life painting. This collection has a scalloped rim, a nod to their more recent origins. The undersides have affixed gold tone decals reading ‘Made in China’ alongside Wanli reign marks, however, they were produced in the mid-20th century.
