Restrike Etching After Käthe Kollwitz "Aufruhr/Revolt"

A restrike etching on paper titled Aufruhr/Revolt from the original 1899 plate created by renowned German artist Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945). Part of The Peasants’ Revolt series, this work features protestors of the German Peasants’ Revolt charging forward with their hands and flags in the air. A nude allegorical figure flies above the army and looks back at a burning building. Although this work was originally published in 1899, this print comes from later restrike editions printed circa 1946-48 and 1963-65 by A. von der Becke & Sohn. Faint script printed to the lower right reads ‘Druck v. O. Felsing Berlin-Chlttbg’, and a blind stamp that reads ‘Muenchen 22’ is present to the lower right. The work is presented under acrylic glass with off-white matting and housed in an off-white wood frame.

Condition

- print is slightly slanted and needs repositioning under mat; frame is loose at corners and need securing; smudge marks throughout mat; smudges throughout glass; wear in frame includes scratches, small chips, stains, and discoloration throughout.
