A chinoiserie pedestal desk by Maitland-Smith of High Point, North Carolina. Featuring black finish with hand-painted East Asian ornamentation in shades of yellow and red throughout. A striking scene of a pre-Industrial East Asian village, bordered by a crosshatched design with floral accents, fills the desktop. Two small drawers flank a wide central drawer, each decorated with images of trees and cranes, and opening via ornate drop pulls; matching false pulls adorn the side panels as well. The open pedestals are decorated with images of tree branches and are both bracketed by and rising on geometric corner brackets.
