A large classical Savonnerie-style needlepoint area rug. This rug is handmade in a palette of crimson, blue-black, ivory, and shades of brown. It features a neoclassical design beginning with a lattice pattern of large-scale round and diamond-shaped medallions over a crimson field. Framing the field are four borders, including a wide primary border containing large vase/pod and trumpet bloom motifs over crimson. Edges are serged on all sides, with a protective strip of fabric running along the underside. The rug is unlabeled.
