Hand-Knotted Persian Tabriz Area Rug
Item Details
A Persian Tabriz area rug. This curvilinear wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of deep sapphire, rose, sage, and cream. It features a densely patterned floral design beginning with a spoked round medallion grounded in cream. Emanating from the medallion are a wheel of peacock’s-eye oval palmettes enclosed in ferns, with large red lantern pendants attached at top and bottom. These elements rest on a sapphire field filled with crisply rendered palmettes, flowers, leaves, and twirling vines, peacock’s-eye and wheel motifs repeating in the spandrels. Framing the field are five floral borders, including a primary border grounded in sapphire and featuring a pattern of crimson cartouches alternating with curvilinear octagons grounded in celadon. Selvedges are overcast, while top and bottom finish with short ivory cotton warp fringe. The rug comes with a certificate of authenticity.
