A mixed media sculpture titled Death Doctor/Kevorkian by artist Frank Kowing (1944 – 2016), completed in 2009. This work depicts an outlandish composition of a skull with a mass of plastic medical supplies hovering above its head. It is rendered with mossy green acrylic, wood, and other found items. While the item is not signed, it comes directly from the artist’s estate. Please note that this item does not come with a certificate of authentication or provenance. Additional information inscribed to the verso indicating artist, title, and date. Accompanied by a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.
Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation. The bulk of his focus is mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970’s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
