A mixed media sculpture titled Memento for meridian from the PAR.A.DISE/CO-CHAIR-MASK series by Maryland outsider artist Frank Kowing (American, 1944-2016), created in 2007. The piece is comprised of an irregular sculpted bust of a face placed within a wooden box. Additionally, multiple tree branches and a portrait of a man with inscriptions on foam board affixed to the fragment of a small wood chair. An informational label is encased in a plastic bag is included.
Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation. The bulk of his focus is mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970’s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.

- minor wear and dents along edges; dirt residues and accretion to the sculpture; scratches to wood; dust residues, minor toning, stains and warping, dented edges of foam board.
