An East Asian style gouache painting on paper of travelers. This painting depicts a group of people trotting on horseback. Multiple riders hold up bunched flags that triumphantly wave as the front three riders look back while happily clapping along, holding a crown and pointed weapon. To the top left corner of the composition is a vertical arrangement of Asian characters, as well as a red stamp serving as the artist’s seal. The painting is presented under glass beneath single-layered matting in a rounded, stained wooden frame featuring bronze brackets to the corners. To the verso is affixed hanging wire.
Condition
- foxing throughout; minor wear to frame finish, especially chipping to paint; slight tears to paper backing at top center and lower right corner.
