19th Century Wood Engravings of Fashion Illustrations
Item Details
A collection of four wood engravings on paper from the 19th century British magazine The World of Fashion and Continental Feuilletons. Two of the prints are hand-colored and depict three women showcasing ‘The Last & Newest Fashions’ in morning and evening dresses. They are depicted in full body illustrations and torso-up views above. One of these plates is from 1837 and the other from 1841. They are labeled with the year and type below the imagery. The other two prints are black and white with nine images each of ‘Portraits of Ladies of the Court of St. James’s, Fashionable Head Dresses’ from the years 1842 and 1843. They showcase the hairstyles and adornments of the head and are labeled with the subject and year to the lower center.
Condition
- to fair; toning to evening dress prints, namely around edges; heavy toning, and foxing to prints of hair styles; edge wear to frame finishes.
