Two Hand Colored Restrike Prints After J.J. Juillet Intaglio Prints of Butterflies

A set of two hand-colored restrike prints on paper after 18th-century intaglio prints by artist J.J. Juillet. The images depict botanical illustrations of butterflies and were initially created after works by artist J.J. Ernst. Featured is Le Grand Collier Argenté (pearl-bordered fritillary) and Le Grand Mars Orangé (apatura iris). Each is titled to the lower center with notations in plate to the lower margin of ‘J.J. Ernst pinxit’ and ‘J.J. Juillet Sculp. P.V.’. The prints are double matted in blue and coral and presented under glass in decorative mottled brown wooden frames with hanging wire to the verso. Each frame backing includes a mid-century label from Flack’s Drexel Heritage with information about the print, each noted with registration number 2835-996.
