Papua New Guinea Ancestor Spirit Board
Item Details
An ancestor spirit board from the Sepik River Valley in Papua New Guinea. The hand-carved wood board features an oblong form with polychrome painted patterns and details. The board would have initially been utilized in memorandum of ancestors. The board is unmarked, it is wired on the verso for hanging.
Condition
- cracking to the wood; pigments are fading; overall surface wear.
