1904 Chromolithograph from Bureau of American Ethnology's Annual Report
Item Details
An original 1904 chromolithograph bookplate titled Tcosbuci and Soyan EP, Nakiatcop from The Bureau of American Ethnology’s Twenty-First Annual Report, published by Heliotype, Co. in Boston. The Bureau of American Ethnology was established in 1897 by an act of Congress. It’s express purpose to record, transcribe and preserve all anthropologic data of the Native American tribes of North America. The information would then be archived for further study at the Smithsonian as part of a greater anthropological project. This print was plate XXIV in the publication, and depicts several Native Americans in ornate costumes. The print is triple-matted in brick red, black and white with a gold tone French line and is presented behind glass in a wooden frame with teal and bronze tone finishes and a hanging wire.

- a few very minimal spots of foxing to print.
