Two Stanhope Rosaries with Microphotographs

Item Details

A pair of vintage French rosaries crafted of plastic made to look like carved bone or ivory. Each bead is connected by a section of bronze-colored chain, and the cross pendants each contain a microphotograph of a religious nature. The rosary holding a St. Benedict medallion contains an image of the ‘Sainte Famille’ (Holy Family) to the interior of the small lens within the cross, which can be seen if held up to the light. The image on the other rosary is of Mary and baby Jesus, with text reading ‘Notre Dame de Perpétuel Secours’ (Our Lady of Perpetual Help). These types of rosaries are generally referred to as ‘Stanhope’ rosaries in honor of the inventor of the tiny lens with which they are embedded.
