Antique Ecclesiastical Altar Cabinet, Circa 1880s

Item Details

An antique ecclesiastical altar cabinet, late 19th to early 20th century. The wooden case is topped by a square cabinet with a pierced, hinged door flanked on each side by openwork galleries. Directly below is a larger cabinet with a pair of scroll-cut and pierced doors decorated with angels and other abstract motifs. The doors are divided by a central pillar and the case is further embellished with red and green glass cabochons and metal accents. The cabinet rests on a molded base and is not marked. Metal hanging straps are affixed to the back of the cabinet. According to the consignor, this item was purchased in Hungary.

Condition

- surface marks, scratches, dings, chips, cracks, stains and general wear throughout; locks on cabinet are not functional and the keys are missing; some of the pierced bracket details are broken and some trim pieces are missing; interior of the cabinet shows very rustic, weathered wood with worm holes and general wear; with one loose shelf inside.
