Antique Empire Style Flame Mahogany Secretary

An antique Empire style mahogany secretary. This nineteenth-century secretary is made of flame mahogany and other woods, featuring substantial crown molding at the top, above a cabinet with matched mahogany veneer on the two Gothic, recessed paneled doors with beaded trim. The cabinet is fitted with brass key holes, and opens to reveal a variety of divided compartments, adjustable shelves and two small drawers fitted with round brass knobs. The hinged desktop folds down and rests on pull-out supports with rounded corners that match the corners of the secretary. There is an additional cabinet at the bottom, with recessed paneled doors, which also have beaded trim, and the secretary rests on bun feet. No maker’s marks. This heavy item is located in a basement that has a door leading to the outside, however buyer should be aware that the path from this door to the street is up a hill.

A moving charge will be incurred by winning bidders for any items not picked up. If winning bidder chooses to not have the item moved for alternate pick-up, the winning bidder will incur a disposal fee to have the item removed.

- bottom cabinet contains crudely cut and installed modern plywood shelving and supports

- some age cracks to wood in areas
- red leather desktop shows wear, cracks, stains
- dark stains, scratches and wear throughout inside
- a piece of trim has become detached but is included
- a small rectangle has been crudely cut out of the back
