Item Details

A pair of Puerto Rican style carved wooden sculptures of monks. These two freestanding works depict the stylized religious figures fully robed, clasping their hands or intently clutching at a large key and tablet. It can be presumed that the latter sculpture depicts Saint Peter, who is the bearer of the keys to Heaven. The sanded figures are further gouged to evidence fine detail, primarily in the face and robes. Both works are affixed to a tiered and flat base, with etched and painted information to the underside.

Condition

- larger statue can detach from base; slight wear to surface; could benefit from dusting; painted residue and wear to underside; scuffing and stain to larger figure’s face.
