An acrylic painting on paper, titled If You Don’t Know Where You Come From, How Do You Know Where You Are Going?, painted in 1993 by listed Louisiana artist WIllie Birch (born 1942). This vibrantly-colored piece features scattered symbols of African and Eurasian art history, with the titular Ghanaian proverb coiling around the perimeter of the work. To the center, a pair of figures, one wearing a basketball jersey reading ‘Do The Right,’ have been rendered in thoughtful marks. This painting is presented under acrylic glass in a slim blonde wood frame with a wire for hanging, two gallery tags bearing the medium, title, and artist’s name to the verso.
